All about TLS (SSL)

TLS stands for Transport Layer Security and is the modern version of SSL (Secure Sockets Layer).  They are both encryption protocols, but only TLS has been further developed in terms of security.  Eweka, therefore, works with TLS.

Every user can use TLS provided that the newsreader used also supports TLS.  Customers can log in to the server 'news.eweka.nl' with their current login details via port 443 or 563.  You must first select the TLS/SSL function in your newsreader.

Advantages:

TLS ensures an added layer of security.

End-to-end encryption - no one can see what is being sent or received over the connection.

Disadvantages:

TLS requires processor power.  If you have a computer that is less powerful, it is possible that your speed will actually be lower when using TLS because the computer cannot keep up with the decryption of the messages.  The faster the Internet connection, the faster the speed and the faster the decryption must occur.
