1. Start the process by downloading and launching the Newsleecher app from their home page.
2. Now installed, launch the Newsleecher app.
3. Next, we need to install Eweka’s news servers. Begin the process by clicking on “Add Server”. This launches the Usenet Server Setup popup menu.
4. Enter the following information:

  • Use Encrypted Server Connections: Click this to use encrypted ports. Please note if you wish to select a specific port you can do so below in the advanced settings.
  • Server Address: news.eweka.nl
  • Choose a Server Nickname: Eweka (or select your own name)
  • Bots: Also often referred to as threads or connections. You can find this information in your welcome email as well as in My Eweka
  • Server Requires Login: Check this box, Eweka accounts require a login.
  • Username: This is your assigned username, you will find this in your welcome email as well as in My Eweka
  • Password: The password you selected during signup. This password is also used for the Eweka.nl site.
  • Show Advanced Settings: Click this box to view additional settings.
    • Download Priority: This setting is used when a backup provider has been set up within Newsleecher. This setting allows multiple servers to be set up within Newsleecher. The standard setting is to set your primary provider to 1 and any backup providers to 2.
    • Server Port:  For any TLS or encrypted connections use port 443 or 563, and for unencrypted connections use ports 80 or 119. This port selection should match your “Encrypted Server Connection” setting.
  • Once the settings are as desired click on “Apply”.
  • Download Newsgroup List: Now with the servers configured you need to set up your newsgroup list.
  • Look for the Connect button, this can be found in the upper left.
    • Once clicked the Connect button will update to Online once it successfully connects to the newsreader. Once it reads Online continue to the next step.
    • Next look for the Subscribe button, it will be near the middle of the screen.
    • Once you click on Subscribe you will receive a notification that the group list is empty. You will be asked to click on the “Get Group List” button. Click on this button and continue.
    • You will be asked to confirm the group list download, confirm the download and continue.
    • Once confirmed you will be able to use Newsleecher to browse Usenet!
  • Newsleecher is now set up and ready to use. For further optimization options please view our Newsleecher Speed Tips guide.

Once your server has been added, you will still need to connect to your new server and get the available groups.

Follow the red numbers in the next two images to connect and download the group list.
