Secure Your Usenet Access with TLS or SSL Encryption

Transport Layer Security (TLS), formerly known as Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), is an encryption protocol that enhances the security of data transmitted over networks. Eweka employs TLS to safeguard your Usenet activities.

Enabling TLS in Your Newsreader

To utilize TLS with Eweka, ensure your newsreader supports this protocol. Follow these steps:

  1. Server Configuration: Set the server address to news.eweka.nl.

  2. Port Selection: Choose port 443 or 563, both of which support TLS connections.

  3. Activate TLS/SSL: Enable the TLS/SSL option within your newsreader's settings.

Advantages of Using TLS

  • Enhanced Security: TLS encrypts your Usenet traffic, preventing unauthorized access to your transmitted data.

Considerations

  • System Performance: TLS encryption requires processing power. On less powerful computers, this may result in reduced speeds, especially with high-speed Internet connections, as the system works to decrypt the data.

By configuring your newsreader to use TLS, you ensure a more secure Usenet experience.
